In compact projects every extra centimeter, gram or wire matters. For this reason, we suggest using our I²C interface for displaying your data. As compared to a conventional text screen, this I²C interface display will leave a smaller footprint on the size of your project. Whatever the situation, having more space is always beneficial.

Only two pins are needed to control the character matrix on the display. This is due to the fact that the on-board integrated controller supports the I²C protocol. All you have to do is supply power for the logic and backlight.

Five contacts are used for the power supply, but by dripping a couple of drops of solder on jumpers J3 and J4 you can combine the power supply circuits for the backlight. Using this method, only three wires are needed to power the display.

We have already prepared the displays for use and soldered the pins to the contacts. The screen can be connected to the control board via breadboard, or directly via the female/male jumpers.

Backward Compatibility

For compatibility with older projects, the pairing pins on the parallel interface are disconnected (similar to the older model of the screen). Therefore, sketches and examples written for conventional displays can also be used with this display. Just connect via the parallel interface and it will work.
