Use this LED RGB strip to create a decorative illumination of any kind. The color and intensity of the segments can all be changed programmatically.
This LED strip has an IP30 protection class; protection against dust and moisture. Therefore, it can be used both indoors and outdoors.
It is suitable for interior lighting in a smart home, for outdoor advertising, or even for landscape design.
The LEDs require 12V for power. When the most power intensive color, white, is on it consumes 500 mA per meter. You can then use this informationto calculate the required power supply for your project.
To control the colors of the LEDs, only one additional wire is used. The LEDs communicate with each other in a chain and deliver the specified color to the desired segment.
Each segment consists of a group of 3 LEDs. You can set the color of the group, but not of each individual LED.
For your project, you can cut the roll into several strips. Just be sure to cut on the line that passes between the groups, otherwise you could damage the LEDs.
If you need more than 5 meters, just hook them all together. The standard connectors allow you to do this without soldering.
When using long ribbons, you need to ensure the quality of your power delivery. It is not enough to apply voltage only from one end, the tracks in the tape are too thin for high current. The wires from the power supply should be brought to the midsections of the strip and from the ends on longer strips.
